UK’s ‘largest wildfire in years’ continues to rage in Scottish Highlands metro.co.uk
A wildfire burning for three days in a remote part of Scotland is on the verge of becoming one of the largest in the UK for many years. The blaze has already engulfed a 20 square mile area of forest, gorse and grassland. It is so big that a large plume of smoke can be seen from space after the fire broke out near Aberlour, Moray, at around 3pm on Easter Monday. Around 80 firefighters are tackling the flames with the help of two helicopters and 19 fire engines and they are expected to be there for several days. Firefighter Bruce Farquharson said: ‘This is shaping up to be one of the largest wildfires that the UK has seen in years. ‘The conditions, including the weather, the terrain and the sheer scale of the incident have made it very challenging.
